Hike Bird Creek Falls, Anchorage

What: A beautiful waterfall in the Bird Valley area between Anchorage and Girdwood. Roughly 4 miles with minimal elevation gain rated as Easy.

When to go: It’s really worth checking out these falls in the winter time while they’re frozen; you’ll be amazed with a huge wall of ice along with stunning frozen creeks and snow in the area.

Tips:

  • The trail is not on Alltrails, but you can use this map: http://dnr.alaska.gov/parks/maps/birdvalleytrailguide.pdf. You’re trying to make it to the part of the trail that intersects with the river on the bottom left section of page 2.
  • This trail is popular for snowmachiners in the winter and four wheelers in the summer, so be prepared if hiking this. You can take your bike as well, but will need to lock it to a tree / hide it when climbing down to the falls at the end.
