Hike Devil’s Pass, Cooper Landing

What: Devil’s creek is one of the many beautiful trails on Kenai Peninsula providing great views for hiking or biking. The trail can be done as an out and back hike, or connects to the resurrection pass trail for a longer adventure. At 21 miles and 3000ft of evelation gain, the trail is rated as Hard.

When to go: Ideally accessed in the peak summer months between June and September. If going earlier than mid June, be prepared for encountering snow in multiple sections that can be a bit tricky to cross. The trail also has 3 or more creek crossings – the levels are usually low enough where you can walk across without shoes or ride across on your bike.

Tips:

  • The trail has a few climb sections early on, but after that there’s a gradual climb over the rest of the section that’s not difficult. You will reach Devil’s pass near the end of the trail – keep going just a bit further and you will intersect with the Resurrection pass trail.
  • One of the best ways to do this hike is an out and back overnight trip. If doing this, you can easily find plenty of camp spots near devil’s pass with beautiful views. To make it even better, reserve the Devil’s pass cabin on recreation.gov (gets booked well in advance during peak summer months).
