Hike Ptarmigan Lake, Seward
What: Ptarmigan lake is a beautiful hike near Seward Alaska that leads to a stunning alpine lake surrounded by epic mountains. At 1000 ft of elevation gain across 7 miles, this hike is rated as Moderate.
When to go: Ideally accessed in the peak summer months after snow melt between June and September. It can be slightly dangerous to hike this area in the winter due to avalance danger.

Tips:
- The trail is fairly easy hiking and most of the elevation gain is spread out across the full course of the hike. You’ll enjoy beautiful views throughout while hiking near a stream for the first half, followed by mountain views for the second half.
- It will be obvious when the trail ends at Ptarmigan lake – it’s worth walking around the lake front to enjoy the various vantage points and beaches to relax at. Many people come to camp here as a quick overnight backpacking trip.
