Tour Columbia Glacier, Valdez

What: The columbia glacier is a massive tidewater glacier that can be accessed via boat tour from Valdez.

When to go: Ideally accessed in the summer months between May and October. The tour typically goes all day – check the schedules for the tour operator of choice.

Tips:

• We went with Stan Stephens cruises when doing our tour – they take you out on a very comfortable boat that offers snacks, food, plenty of seating, and great places to view the glacier. We saw plenty of wildlife along the way and enjoyed a beautiful day exploring the glacier.
• There are other ways to explore the columbia glacier and surrounding areas – other operators do kayak tours that will take you out on a boat, drop you at a beach, and then let you explore for hours in the area. There are also other glaciers in the area that can be toured via Stan Stephens as well.
• The glacier is receding extremely fast, and conditions each year can change dramatically.
