Fly-in to a Denali Glacier, Talkeetna
What: An expensive but bucket list worthy experience – flying into Denali National Park and landing on Ruth Glacier right next to Denali mountain.
When to go: Ideally accessed in the summer months between June and September.
How to get there: There are a few different places to take this tour from, but the most popular is Talkeetna since it sits close enough to the Denali mountain (as the crow flies).
Tips:
- There are a few operators that offer this tour, and they offer varying levels of tours from just flying into the park, to full multi hour loops around the mountain. Recommend doing a tour that lands on a glacier at a minimum since this really lets you experience the park.
- It will get cold on the glacier – most operators will have extra gear if you’re not outfitted already.
- If you’re not nervous about heights / airsickness, try to book a smaller plane or sit in the passenger seat – this will help you get the best views while flying to the glacier.
