What: Tutka bay is one of the most beautiful bays in Kachemak Bay State Park near Homer Alaska. The best way to experience the bay is via kayak. Multiple operators offer tours of the area.

When to go: Ideally accessed in the peak summer months of June to September.

Tips:

  • You can either book a tour with a kayak company or book your own water taxi if you have your own kayaks. Just add water adventures offers a great experience traversing between various coves in the bay, while having a great base to relax before and after the tour.
  • Tutka bay is right next to the beatiful Grace Ridge hike. One option is to drop off your kayak at the north end of grace ridge, have a water taxi take you to the south end, do the full hike, and then explore the bay via kayak before getting picked up by water taxi.
  • There are options to stay out in tutka bay as well via airbnb or small yurts at various spots along the bay.
