Ski Peak 3, Anchorage

What: Peak 3 is one of the most loved slopes for backcountry skiers in Anchorage to enjoy. The elevation change, eastward facing direction of the slope, and short drivability make this a great place to ski all season. Given a 2500ft+ elevation gain over 4 miles round trip, this is rated as Hard.

When to go: Peak 3 typically gets enough of a snow base by late November, sometimes earlier, sometimes later. The snow will then typically last through April for skiers to enjoy.

Tips:

  • To access peak 3, park at the road headed up to rabbit lake / backside of flat top trail. From there head up the trail towards flat top / peak 2 / peak 3. Peak 3 is the highest peak of the 3 – you can skin up directly towards the peak or take a more gradual route up peak 2 and then over to peak 3.
  • Be careful not to go too early in the season since the area can be quite rocky particularly at the top.
