Snowmachine the Matanuska Valley, Glacier View

What: Snowmachining near the Matanuska glacier can be an amazing spring time adventure with a ton of peaks, lakes, and pow fields to explore.

When to go: Ideally worth going during peak snow coverage, and best during Feb-Apr with ample daylight.

Tips:

If you don’t have your own sled, you can book tours directly from sheep mountain lodge – they’ll take you down some great trails, up some mountain passes for good views, and find you a great lake to play around in the snow.
It’s worth checking out both north and south sides of the main road if you have time. On the north side, you can climb up a few peaks and enjoy views of multiple mountain ranges, and even skin/double up for some great skiing. On the south side, you’ll find some great lakes and bogs that have deep snow to enjoy.
