Hike Bear Mountain Trail, Cooper Landing

What: Bear mountain is a short but beautiful hike that climbs to amazing vistas of skilak lake and the surrounding areas. A 1.5 mile out and back trail with 500 ft of elevation gain, this is rated as Moderate.

When to go: Ideally accessed in the peak summer months between June and September.

Tips:

  • The road leading to the trailhead turns to gravel once you get off the highway, but is totally manageable for most cars. The parking lot is pretty small, but is usually not crowded.
  • The hike mostly climbs throughout until getting to the very end where you’ll have amazing views of skilak lake. There are not too many views on the way up since you’ll be in the trees most of the time.
